Do you not say, “There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.” (John 4:35 ESV)

Beijing is the capital of the People’s Republic of China. The city was founded more than 3,000 years ago, and was regarded as the capital of China for over 850 years. One can find the Hui all over the capital region; however, they tend to congregate in certain streets as well as a few towns and villages around the city. A significant Hui community lives in the Niujie Street area of central Beijing. Slightly over 11,000 Hui live in this area of 1.5 square km around the famous Niujie Mosque, the biggest and oldest mosque in Beijing. It was built in AD 996 and was rebuilt and expanded later. It now covers 6,000 square meters. Its architecture blends the beauty of both ancient Chinese palaces and Arabian mosques. There is very little if any Christian witness to the Hui in Beijing. There are very few known believers among the Hui in Beijing.

Yinchuan is the capital city of the Ningxia Province – China’s Hui autonomous region. The population of Yinchuan is over 1 million people and the Hui make up about twenty percent of the city. Yinchuan has a different “flavor” to it because of the strong Hui influence of the province – many of the signs have Arabic words, the restaurants tell you if they are not Hui rather than if they are, and the people all seem to be heavily influenced by the Hui culture. The important thing about the city is that many of the Hui who live there are not from there, and most of their hometowns are located in the southern part of the province where the Hui are a majority, rather than a minority… also places where foreigners are not usually welcome…

Prayer Requests:

  • May God cause the Hui people in the Beijing area to seek the true God.
  • Pray that Chinese believers can be agents of blessing and positive change for the city and the Hui population.
  • Pray for the Hui in Yinchuan – that they will believe and return to the south to share with their family and friends.
  • Pray for the church to explode throughout Ningxia Province – that God’s truth would be heard and the few known believers would grow in their faith and be bold.
