If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! (Matthew 7:11 ESV)
It’s a common occurrence to have your bicycle stolen in China. Even if you buy an old, ratty bike, it’s still another man’s treasure. Even if you deface it, it can still be painted over and resold. Our dear Hui friend, a college student who has just started following Jesus, had her old, second-hand bike stolen while on campus. Was she surprised? Definitely not. She had reported her lost bike to the campus security, but received no help there. We did what we could do at the time: pray for faith that the One True God would restore her bicycle to her. No, it didn’t magically appear before our eyes after we prayed. The Almighty God let us sit on that prayer for a while until many days later, as we were walking by the school cafeteria together, our friend saw her bicycle amidst the jungle of other bikes.
“That’s my bike!” she yelled in amazement.
I looked in unbelief. “No, certainly not,” I thought. Our friend went to take a closer look, and it definitely was her bike. It was a miracle by a Father who cares to not only hear, but also answer, our prayer for an old, PeptoBismol pink bicycle.
And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (Mark 11:22-24 ESV)
- Pray that this young believer will learn to trust God with all of her worries both big and small.
- Pray that this student will pray for her family’s salvation and pray for boldness and courage to share the love of Jesus with them.
- Pray for God to give disciple-makers wisdom and discernment as they disciple new Hui believers.
