In this year’s Ramadan 30 Days of Prayer, we are focusing on four Chinese Muslim population segments. Download the 2024 Ramadan prayer guide here. This post provides more information about the Hui of Ningxia and lists specific prayer requests.

Current Situation:

2.7 million Hui people live in the Ningxia Hui autonomous region in Northwest China, representing about 18% of the total Hui population. Much of Ningxia is dry desert-like terrain, but it is where most of China’s goji berries are grown. Chances are, if you eat goji berries, they are Ningxia goji berries. In rural areas, many Hui raise sheep and goats. In the cities, like Yinchuan, Hui take different occupations including teachers, businessmen, and restaurant owners. In most cities, Muslims are a minority, and there are challenges to practicing their Islamic faith in China, even in Ningxia.

Fewer than 0.1% of Hui profess to be Christian. There is a Bible and Gospel materials available in their language.

Prayer Needs:

  • Pray for Hui believers to be discipled and become disciple-makers
  • Pray for God’s Word to be received by Hui Muslims
  • Pray for missionaries to have open doors for sharing Christ with Hui
  • Pray for Chinese believers to learn about Hui culture and reach out in friendship
  • Pray for Chinese churches to engage in ministry to the Hui
  • Pray for Hui Muslims in Ningxia to meet believers, hear the Gospel, and receive it
