In many cultures, it is common to give homemade goods to friends as a way of thanking them. This can be a more difficult situation with Muslim friends as many will only eat halal foods, which are those foods that adhere to Islamic Law.

One friend was surprised and touched when given a loaf of halal bread that she could actually eat by a believing friend. She knew extra effort had been made, especially for her. When living in and among Muslim communities, believers often choose to keep halal homes—to only eat halal food inside the home and to only use clean kitchen wear that has never touched non-halal food.

This believer was able to share with this friend how the Father had directed her specifically to give away her old kitchen items. The sister shared how much she loved cooking and hosting but had usually chosen pork as her meat of choice. After moving to a new area, she knew her neighbors did not eat pork and after consulting with a Muslim-background believing friend, she realized that if she was going to invite Muslim friends into her home, she would need to have clean, halal cookware. The Father provided good homes for the old cookware and made provisions for new cookware for new ministry opportunities.

This story of obedience led to a God-honoring, spiritual conversation about listening to and obeying the Father.

Pray

  • Pray that Muslims will see and feel the tangible acts of love from their believing neighbors.
  • Pray that Muslims will come to know the true Bread of Life.
  • Pray that believers will continue to make the effort to love their Hui neighbors in culturally appropriate ways.
