When I was 14 I finished middle school and went to a vocational school to learn how to cook. At 16 I began working 7 days a week cooking noodles in a small restaurant. I get two days off a month. It is hard and hot work. I hope one day to own a restaurant myself.

The noodle shop is open every day even during Ramadan. I am not able to go to the mosque and pray. I am always working. Even though Hui are not eating during Ramadan, we still have many customers. My grandfather still expects me to fast. It is hard not eating or drinking while working all day.

I do not understand why we fast or what the prayers mean. I memorized them as a kid, but I haven’t said them in such a long time that I am forgetting them.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray that Hui who work 7 days a week will meet Christ followers as they work and that they would hear the Gospel.
  • Pray the Holy Spirit will soften the hearts of Hui so that they can accept the idea that a Hui person can choose to not be Muslim.
