YeYe (“grandfather”) spends his retirement years sitting outside in the sun in his apartment complex and walking back and forth across the street to the Mosque five times a day. Like most elderly Chinese Muslims, he’s devoted to his faith because thoughts of the afterlife seem more pertinent at his age. Over the years he’s picked up a bit of the Arabic in the prayers and thinks he has a good grasp on what he’s praying, but of course there’s still no certainty where he’ll go after he dies. In Islam, it’s all about works and how good of a Muslim you’ve been; whether or not you’ve prayed often enough, fasted during Ramadan, given to the poor, etc. He thinks he’s been a good Muslim in recent years but he’s working hard now to make up for earlier years when he was too busy to attend prayers at the Mosque.

Pray

  • Pray elderly Chinese Muslims will see the truth in their vain attempts of salvation and come to know grace through Jesus and his sacrifice for their sins.
  • Pray for the Christians around elderly Muslims to be burdened for their souls and to share the gospel boldly with them.
