Amina lives in two worlds.  Her parents have taught her to only eat from Halal food stands.  She dresses like most girls her age but is careful to have shirts and blouses that have sleeves to the elbow.  Her family lives in a part of town that is mostly Muslim so many of her classmates have a similar background. During Ramadan, she would fast part of the time, getting up before sunrise to eat then sleeping for 2 more hours before leaving to school.  The lack of sleep with no food or water during the day make concentrating on school difficult so she does not fast the entire month.

Her test scores were not high enough to continue beyond 9th grade but she was able to go to a trade school for accounting. Her job after trade school gives her contact with upper middle-class people.  She is diligent and works long hours. Her mother still advises her, but Amina spends her days with people who do not share her religious background.

Pray

  • Pray for Amina and other young people like her to see the hopelessness of Islam, atheism, and Buddhism demonstrated in the lives of their friends and co-workers.
  • Ask that as she meets believers, she will see and hear of the hope in Jesus.
