Mei Li was born in her home in a small, rural village.  She wasn’t born in a hospital, so there’s no documentation that she was ever actually born. Her father has traveled to the provincial capital several times to apply for her birth certificate and identification card, but he hasn’t been able to get one because the cost is just too high for her family, who attempts to make ends meet by performing odd jobs and dabbling in sheep farming.

Mei Li has grown up in a happy home though. She lives with her grandparents who are devout Muslims and her parents who converted to Christianity before she was born. In their village, it’s normal for multiple generations to live together in a single home. At times, there have been tense conversations and disagreements, but Mei Li has always felt loved.  Her parents teach her about Jesus and tell her stories from the Bible, and her grandparents help her understand the culture and holidays she experiences in her small village. Sometimes she feels confused about how her parents’ faith and her grandparents’ faith are similar and how they are different.

Pray

  • Pray for children like Mei Li who have exposure to multiple faith backgrounds to understand Truth at an early age.
  • Pray for young believing parents trying to find a balance between respecting their non-believing family members and continuing to teach their children to love and follow Jesus.
