I was visiting an area of town where I frequently go to see friends, knit, eat amazing local food and share Truth. These friends know I have a health care background so often save health problems to ask me. Not long ago it became clear that Grandma has the ability to read but can no longer enjoy books due to failing eye sight. Today I brought my flippers (a device to check vision) and an assortment of glasses.

I checked Grandma’s sight and found a pair of donated reading glasses that would be appropriate. When your mobile clinic must fit in a purse or a backpack, how do you check vision? I whipped out my phone with a Hui appropriate version of the Scriptures. I opened the app to Genesis and had Grandma start reading to be sure these glasses were appropriate.

She started at Genesis 3. She began to read, sure enough we found a pair of glasses that would help her. I asked if she knew the story. I began to tell the story of Adam’s fall when her daughter interrupted. Grandma would have none of that! She shushed her daughter and asked me to continue with the story. With her new glasses she can check the accuracy of the story herself, a new experience for her and those in her family.

For Muslims in China, direct access to scripture is not a common thing. Most simply listen to what the Imam says and try to follow what they are told. They are not encouraged to read the Quran for themselves.

  • Thank the Father for the resource of having a Hui appropriate version of the Bible to use when sharing the Gospel and discipling new believers.
  • Thank Him for volunteers who send glasses so that elderly Muslims can read the Truth for themselves.
  • Ask the Father to awaken curiosity in many Muslims, awaken a desire to know Him and a determination to read about Him for themselves.
