Hui are like snowflakes….no two are exactly the same

I have a Hui friend who is pretty unique compared to other Hui women. She thinks critically and has an original mind. She is very much a free spirit who likes to color outside the lines. Her mind has a naturally abstract orientation.

A good illustration of her distinct personality was revealed during one of our weekly Bible studies together. She explained that she believed Christianity was true in its own world and that she also believed Islam was true in her personal world. She further expounded her theory of parallel realities and how they all fit together cohesively, in her mind, throughout the course of our friendship.

My friend is unique among Hui people in her universalistic views. Other Hui will have quite the opposite take on life or will not bother at all to make sure their religion fits cohesively with the rest of their thoughts about life. Each Hui soul is distinct in personality and life experience.

Individuality calls for unique approaches to every Hui person. The same presentation of the gospel may be extremely effective for one person while relatively off-putting for another. Although my friend was a staunch Muslim, she was extremely open to the worldview presented in the Bible, because my Christian friends and I engaged her unique perspective with the gospel. My friend is a good reminder that contextualization extends even to the individual. Let us who are working among the Hui remember this and strive to become all things to all Hui so that by all means God might use us to save some.

Join me in praying for:
• My Hui friend to find salvation in the one truth of the gospel of Jesus
• Workers among the Hui to be good students of people so as to better contextualize the gospel to their friends
• Ultimately that the Spirit would do a mighty work and save many Hui people
