“…It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35 ESV)

Zakat means to give Alms. Muslims are commanded to give one-fortieth (2.5%) of their income. Alms giving has come to mean an obligatory “religious tax”. It is neither a charity nor a tax. Charity is optional; alms giving is not. Taxes can be used for any of society’s needs. Alms can only be spent on helping the poor and needy. Muslims believe alms should be paid with the conscious belief that wealth and property belong to Allah, and they merely act as trustees.

Muslims believe that during the month of Ramadan their good deeds are multiplied and outweigh their sins. Therefore, during this month many Muslims will be motivated to give to the poor and needy even more than they might during other times of the year.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray this act of service will leave them feeling and understanding that no amount of their own actions can earn salvation.
  • Pray the Hui will understand God gave the greatest gift in His son Jesus.
